The Night

 

 

 

"Ohh when would they be back?” thought Eve pacing up and down the dark sitting room. Eve thought of what her Mum would do in a situation like that.

 

Breathe in breathe out that's what she would do. Eve started breathing in and out, the wind getting louder every minute.

 

 "It's very dark,” whispered Eve as she turned on the new lamp, "That's much better."                   

 

Adam stirred but fell back asleep.

 

"Why was I so stu.....," Eve froze there was that metallic tap again.

 

Eve sat down on Adam's bed and looked out of the dark, dripping window. Eve had no clue what the noise was, was it someone or something. Some start to the summer holidays left alone with your little brother in a storm!

 

Eve got so worked up that she burst into wet tears. She cried and cried wanting a cuddle from anyone, tears dripping all over her red jumper and yellow jammy bottoms. Then she felt something move! the hairs on the back of her neck prickled up. A hand slowly moved onto her shoulder this was it this was the end.

 

      "Eve, why are you sitting on me and where is Mummy and Daddy?” moaned sleepy Adam.

 

Whoof that was close Eve had got such a shock but it was only her little brother Adam. Well what were she going to do now with Adam wide awake and no parent to look after them? Now another problem.                             

 

 "It's alright Adam, Mummy and Daddy are just a way out to see Aunty Sara they'll be back and Ethan's away too, they couldn't wake you up so I offered to look after you, you little monkey.” Eve badly lied.

 

"Right can I get a chocolate biscuit?” said Sam walking out of his bed in his 'Thomas the Tank Engine' pjs.

 

As Sam trotted to the kitchen then Eve dashed from the unmade bed, grabbed the telephone in her parent’s room and started dialling her big brothers number frantically. She waited but she couldn't get a signal because of the blowing storm. 

 

"Blooming storm!” Eve cursed as she slammed phone down. Crash that was the sound of Adam dropping something Eve walked speedily through to the kitchen where she saw Adam sitting on his little bottom covered in biscuit crumbs; he had dropped the biscuit tin.                                                                               

 

"Just what I need" thought Eve as she picked up her crumby little brother and laid him on the table. Once Eve had cleared up the crumbs it was getting really late around quarter to 12.                                                   

 

"Wow it's getting late! Time to get back to sleep mister” said Eve.

 

As she walked past the giant French windows she saw a shadow in her back garden walking creepily past the swing bench. "Eeek" Eve said.

 

She steadily lowered Adam down and stood at the windows. Eve was shaking; Eve was petrified, what is that mysterious shadow in the garden?

 

“What’s that Evie?"Whispered Adam.

 

“I dddoon'tt knnnooow,"stutterd Eve.

 

"Well... let's go and see!" shouted little Adam excitedly.

 

Adam ran to the door and opened it with all his might. There wind started bustling through the house Eve had the shivers. Suddenly a thought popped up in Eve's mind he might blow away! "NOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

 

But it was too late Adam had ran outside and was looking around the garden then he ran forward and then he disappeared. Eve ran outside to the freezing winds her heart pounding, this was not her night! As she jumped down the steps there she saw Adam crouched on his knees at the back of their big garden stroking a cat? Eve walked over cautiously to where Adam and the ginger cat stood. She looked around and around to see if anything or anyone else was there.

 

"It's an orange cat, not a person,” shivered Adam.

 

"Yes of course I just got a fright, now come back inside its bitterly cold outside.” said Eve as the storm blew louder.

 

Eve and Adam walked through the back door back inside the house. Eve locked the doors with her key and stowed in her pocket nobody was going to come in or out her house tonight. Eve sat back down on Adam's teddy bear bed and munched her biscuit greedily. She was very hungry in the night. Nobody spoke for a minute or two all was quite apart from the storm and the metallic clicking noise. Suddenly Adam whispered, "Do you want to play a game?"

 

"Adam it's really late shouldn't you be asleep? Look you’re already yawning” said Eve beckoning Adam to his bed.

 

"I don't want to go to sleep now, moaned Adam, besides I’m not tired."

 

"Fine," Eve said. The wind was howling then with a flash the light started to flicker and then the bulb went out.

 

"Just what I need! I think we have a torch downstairs," said Eve scared.

"I don't like the dark,"said Adam.

"Right i want you to be a soilder Adam, get lots of books,pillows,teddys,boxes and snacks and make them into a base where we can hide from the baddies i i solider!"shouted Eve as she left the room.

Adam had made the front of the base with cardboard boxes,the sides were put together with big books from the library and the back with lots of fluffy pillows.Inside were lots of teddybears.

Eve came back with sandwiches, fruit and a big torch.When she had got to Adams bedroom she stared and was gobsmacked with what he had done.

"Ohh Adam did you really do all this i'm so proud,"said Eve delighted.

"Come on Eve get in the battle station,"giggled Adam.

Eve carefully got herself in the square battle station and sat down.She passed Adam a cheese sandwiche and a drink of milk.Then took one for herself.

"Mmmmm... let's stay up all night!"said Adam enthusiastically.

"Yeh that would be great solider but you need some sleep"said through a mouthful.

"You're not Mum i don't need to listen to you!"shouted Adam stubbornly.

"C'mon now,"whispered Eve.

Eve and her little brother Adam sat there for what seemed to be ages through that loud,crashing storm later on they dozed off.

      "SCREECH,CLICK,PATTER, PATTER, BOOM!!!!!"

"Wha wha wha AHHH! what is that dreadful noise? Is it the metallic  clicking noise, no it can't be!"whispered Eve scared out of her mind.

Eve shook Adam vigourously.Adam woke up startled.

"There's a noise from downstairs Adam i'm going to see,"brave Eve got a teddybear,a toy sword and a broom.

She walked cautiously down the big stairs trying not to make a creak.Adam was just standing there dumbstruck.

"Eve i'm coming with you,i want the sword by the way,"whispered Adam as he plucked up his courage nd made his his way downstairs to where his sister was standing.

"No i can handle it i'm positive anyway you aren't tall enough,"pointed out Eve.

"I'm coming it will probably be a the cat again anyway,"said Adam.

"Ok Ok but i'm not sure!"shouted Eve over the comotion.

Eve ruffled Adam's hair and gave him a kiss.

"AFTER THREE..... ONE......TWO................THREEE!!!!!"screamed Eve.

Eve burst open the door and her and Adam started hitting the dark figures.The figures were yelping and trying to grab the weapons.

"Eve it's us Ethan, Mum and Dad quit it will you,"shouted mad Ethan.

"Ohhh sorry come and sit down!"shouted Eve blushing in the dark.

Ethan and Mum and Dad sat down on the leather suite and now that the light was on you could tell that Ethan had drank alot and Mum and Dad had got bored sitting with Mr and Mrs Buchanan.

"You You left her alone with Adam in a storm,"shouted Dad pacing up and down in rage.

"She said she'd be alright with Adam, Adam was sleeping anyway."said Ethan with a guilty look on his face.

"Right Eve dear you and Adam tell the story then it's time for bed."said their beautiful Mum calmly.
